First Semester
Students in this course are expected to use previous knowledge in this area, specifically from the classical era, and engage in a profound reading of overlaps in the evolution of civilizations. The theoretical insights that develop along this trajectory, together with their ideological compliments, will hopefully inspire the students to better understand the “glocal” perspectives from which civilizations evolve and condition the world in which we live as both makers and consumers of civilization.
The course will be a composite of material from Greek, Roman, and Judeo-Christian Civilization; pre-colonial, colonial, and post-independence African societies; the modern/postmodern British and American societies; and all other geo-ideological spaces that help the student to understand better the relative world of our existence.
